Using Modified Harmonic Analysis to Estimate the Trend of Sea-Level Rise around Taiwan

Sea-level rise (SLR) has become an essential global environmental problem and great importance is attached by all sectors of society. This study aims to estimate the trends SLR from tide-gauge measurements located in different sites Taiwan. Different methods analysis, such as linear-regression method (LRM), Hilbert–Huang transform (HHT), modified harmonic analysis (MHA) are used their applicability discussed. Limitations these also compared discussed via analyzed results. MHA focus present paper. It advantage representing tidal motion well long-term trend more accurately, even condition data loss caused mechanical failures or anomaly. The analyzing results reveal that applicable for estimating than above traditional methods. most important indicate recent 20-year rate within range −0.9 mm/yr 18.1 mm/yr, using database observed at 17 stations along Taiwanese coast. with databases scenarios. value adding vertical-change benchmark. interesting note correction tends reduce bias variation SLR.
